🏔️ Grand Teton National Park — A Stunning Mountain Landscape

We had a nice drive today to Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Mountain Range still has glacier remnants near the very tops of the mountains—although, from a distance, they really just look like dirty snow. 😂

Grand Teton National Park was established in 1929 and, at approximately 310,000 acres, is small compared to its northern neighbor, Yellowstone. But what it lacks in size, it definitely makes up for in scenery. The John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway connects the two parks, making it an easy drive between them.

We spent some time learning about the park’s history, enjoyed a quiet lunch, and refueled the vehicle before heading back to Yellowstone. And speaking of fuel…mid-grade gasoline was $5.10 per gallon! 😳

Grand Teton is also home to a diverse wildlife population and serves as part of the migratory route for several species. If you’re ever visiting Yellowstone, take the extra time to visit its smaller neighbor. It’s definitely worth seeing.

Back at Yellowstone, James spent some time talking with a group of folks from Denver, Colorado. They are members of an MG car club, and some of them had driven their vintage MGs all the way from Denver! Like us, they avoided the interstates and took the scenic route. Their cars looked amazing.

🤠 Day 13 — We Are Almost a Cowboy and Cowgirl…

We took our time getting started this morning and actually slept in a little. The majority of the day was spent driving to the northeastern part of Yellowstone for some real Western activities—a covered wagon ride and cowboy steak dinner with live music.

Some people rode horses, others took stagecoaches, and the rest of us climbed aboard covered wagons.

During the ride, we saw plenty of bison casually grazing throughout the valley. At one point, a bison came down the hill, walked right between us and the horses, and completely ignored us. Apparently, we weren’t important enough to interrupt his day. 😂

The valley was absolutely gorgeous. I could almost see myself living there…probably alone. 😂 But a house overlooking that valley would be stunning!

Dinner included steak, cornbread muffins, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, and a mixed berry crisp. The steak was okay, but I loved the rest of the meal.

Now, getting there and back was another story!

The drive involved traveling along a mountainous road, and my girl was almost a nervous wreck. 😬 On the way back, we even had to stop for an elk standing right in the middle of the road. There was no rushing him—he moved when he was ready!

Another great experience in the books.

And to top off the day, we met a Black man who lives in Montana…and he made it very clear that he has absolutely NO plans to move! 😂

Every day of this road trip seems to bring another story, another beautiful view, and another person we probably never would have met otherwise.

  1. Another great adventure under your belts! How many parks have you been to so far? 4? 5? I hope you’re getting stamps for your national park passbook. PS: Are you sure that they didn’t feed you bison meat?? 🦬🥩😂
