Hello, family and friends!
Yvonne and I are now on Day Four of our cross-country adventure, and what a journey it has been so far! We’ve driven through the historic Southern states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, taking in the scenery, the history, and, of course, some delicious food along the way.
Our palates were definitely satisfied at our first stop in Jackson, Mississippi, where we enjoyed a scrumptious meal at Walker’s Drive-In. It was a great way to kick off our adventure!
From there, we headed into the Lone Star State of Texas. Instead of continuing to battle the crowded I-20 interstate, we decided to take the scenic route through the Texas countryside. It made for a much more relaxing and enjoyable drive, allowing us to see a different side of Texas along the way.
We eventually made our way to Dallas, home of those famous Cowboys! While there, we enjoyed a meal at Pappadeaux’s. Let’s just say the food was good, but the prices definitely reminded us that we were in Dallas!
Thankfully, the excellent service from our waiter, Josh, made the experience even better.
Yesterday, we arrived in Amarillo, known as the City of Friendship. The area is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and is rich in Western history. We even learned about the nearby Guadalupe Peak, which stands at an impressive 8,751 feet. Needless to say, we admired it from a distance — climbing it was definitely NOT on our itinerary!
The scenery around this part of Texas is so spectacular that it has even been featured in movies, including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It’s easy to see why filmmakers are drawn to this incredible landscape.
Today, we’re moving on to our next adventure: Great Sand Dunes National Park in Mosca, Colorado!
We’ll be hanging out there for a couple of days, enjoying some hiking, taking in the breathtaking scenery, and getting some much-needed rest at the Rustic Rook Resort, where our lodging is made from—you guessed it—grain bins!
I absolutely cannot wait to see Yvonne’s expression when we arrive!
I have a feeling this is going to be one of those travel moments we’ll be talking about for years to come.
Until the next adventure… stay tuned!
